According to the scriptures, Shanidev, son of Sun God and Goddess Chhaya, has been called a cruel planet, Shani Dev was very arrogant in childhood and father Surya Dev, upset by his arrogance, asked Lord Shiva to show the right path to his son Shani. Even after Lord Shiva's explanation, there was no change in Shani Dev's arrogance.
One day Lord Shiva attacked Shani Dev to teach him a lesson, due to which Shani became unconscious. Like a judge, Lord Shiva started cooperating in the work of justice and punishment.
According to the scriptures, one day Shani Dev, after meeting his guru Lord Bholenath on Mount Kailash, said- Lord! Tomorrow I am going to enter your zodiac, that is, my curved vision is going to fall on you, when Lord Shiva heard this, he was astonished, and said to Shani Dev that for how long will your curvature vision be on me?
Shani Dev told Shiva that tomorrow my curvature will be on you till a quarter of a quarter, the next day in the morning, Shivji thought that today Shani's vision is going to fall on me, so I have to do something that Shani cannot see me on this day? Then Lord Shiva, thinking something, appeared in the world of death i.e. earth and changed his disguise and assumed the form of an elephant.
Gentlemen! Throughout the day, Bholenath kept roaming here and there on the earth, taking the form of an elephant, when evening came, Lord Shiva thought that now Shani is going to leave from my planet, so I should come in my real form, Lord Shiva in his real form. Wearing it and returning to Mount Kailash, when Bholenath reached Mount Kailash in a happy posture, Shanidev was already there waiting for Shiva.
Seeing Shani Dev, Shiva said, O Shani Dev! Look, your curved vision did not have any effect on me, and today I was protected from you all day, listening to Lord Bholenath's words, Shani Dev smiled and said - Lord! From my point of view neither any god nor any demon has survived, even you were affected by my work for the whole day.
Lord Shiva was surprised and asked Shani Dev that how is this possible? I haven't even met you, so there is no question of curvature? Shani Dev smiled gracefully and said to Shiva - Lord, because of my curved vision, you had to go from the god-vagina to the animal vagina all day today, thus you became the character of my curved vision.
Hearing this, Lord Bholenath was pleased with Shani Dev and embraced him and the whole Kailash mountain started reciting the praise of Shani Dev, brothers and sisters! Even God cannot be saved from the wrath of Shani Dev, so what is the chessboard of us Kali-yuga human beings? Therefore, adopt truthfulness in life, imbibe purity in character, and practice purity.
Even if Shani Dev's curved vision comes upon us, it will be only for a few moments, not half-and-half, the God of justice, Shri Shani Maharaj keeps a complete account, so avoid sin and do not side with injustice, have compassion on all living beings. The legend of Shani Dev who can make the Rank the king.
At one time, when Suryadev went near his wife Chhaya for conception, Chhaya closed her eyes being frightened by the fierce brilliance of the sun. Later, Shani Dev was born from the womb of Chhaya. Seeing Shani's dark complexion, Surya accused his wife Chhaya that Shani is not my son, since then Shani is hostile to his father Surya and that is why these two never got married. Shanidev worshiped Shiva after being hungry and thirsty for many years and burnt his body further with severe penance, then being pleased with the devotion of Shani Dev, Shiva asked Shani Dev to ask for a boon.
Then Shani Dev prayed to Shiva and said that since ages, my mother Chhaya has been defeated, my mother has been humiliated and harassed a lot by my father Surya, so my mother wishes that I should marry my father too. I should become more powerful and worshipable and I can break their ego.
On this matter, Shiva gave him a boon and said that your place will be the best among the Navagrahas. You will be the judge and magistrate of the earth, you will be called the god of justice by punishing the people for their deeds. Not only this, even ordinary human beings, gods, demons, siddhas, vidyadhars and serpents will also be afraid of your name. According to mythological texts, Shani Dev is Kashyap Gotri and Saurashtra is considered to be his birthplace.
In the Matsya Purana, the body of Mahatma Shani Dev is like a sapphire of Indra Kanti, he is riding on a vulture, he has a bow and arrow in his hand, with one hand there is also a groom posture, the formidable form of Shani Dev is also frightening. Shani is always the destroyer of sinners. Many legends are also found in Western literature, there are many temples of Shani Dev in India, such as Shingnapur, Nightingale Forest of Vrindavan, Shanishcharaji of Gwalior, Delhi and many other cities have temples of Maharaj Shani.

According to mythology, Shanidev is the son of Chhaya, the wife of Lord Surya in the Kashyapa dynasty tradition. Along with the son of Sun, Shani Dev is also called the enemy of the father. The brother and sister of Shani Dev are Yamraj, the god of death, the holy river Yamuna and Bhadra of cruel nature. Shanidev was married to the elder daughter of Chitrarath. The birth festival of Shani Dev is celebrated on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. The birth place of Shani Dev is believed to be Shingnapur in Saurashtra. They consider Hanuman, Bhairav, Budh and Rahu as their friends. Shani Dev's vehicle is a vulture and his chariot is made of iron.

Shani Dev gives his auspicious effect especially in the subjects of law, politics and spirituality. Kidney diseases, diabetes, mental diseases, skin diseases, gout and cancer can occur due to the bad effects of Saturn, for relief from which the items of Saturn should be donated.
Why is the color of Shani Dev black?:
When Shani Dev was in the womb of her mother Chhaya, then Shiva Bhaktini Mata did severe penance of Lord Shiva to wish for a brilliant son, due to which the color of Shani became black in the womb due to the heat of sunshine and heat, but this tenacity of the mother made Shani Dev Gave him immense power.
Why is the speed of Saturn slower than other planets?:
Saturn is a slow moving planet. It is said in the Puranas that Shani Dev walks lame, due to which his speed is slow. It takes about two and a half years for them to cross one zodiac sign. Why does Shani Dev walk with a limp?:
There are two stories prevalent in the scriptures on this subject -
1 Once, because of not being able to bear the effulgence of the Sun God, his wife Sangya Devi made an idol like herself from her body and named her Swarna. Ordered him that in my absence, while taking care of all my children, serve the sun god and enjoy wife happiness. Giving this order, she went to her father's house.
Swarna also molded herself in such a way that even Suryadev could not know this secret. Meanwhile, Swarna had five sons and two daughters from Suryadev. Swarna started paying more attention to her children and less attention to the children of Sangya. One day Shani, son of Sangya felt very hungry, so he asked for food from Swarna. Then Swarna said that wait now, first I should offer food to God and feed your younger brothers and sisters, then I will give you food. Hearing this, Shani got angry and raised his leg to kill the mother, then Swarna cursed Shani that your leg should be broken now.
Hearing the curse of his mother, Shani Dev feared and went to his father and told the whole story. Suryadev understood that no mother can curse her child like this. Then Suryadev got angry and asked, tell me who are you? Seeing the brightness of the sun, Swarna got terrified and told the whole truth. Then Sun God explained to Shani that Swarna is not your mother but she is like a mother. So his curse will not be in vain, but it will not be so harsh that the leg is completely separated. Yes, you will go on walking with a limp with one leg for the rest of your life. ,
When Mandodari, the wife of Ravana, became pregnant, Ravana established all the planets according to his wish, with the desire of invincibility and a long life son. All the planets were worried about future events but stayed there because of fear of Ravana.
When Ravana's son Meghnad was about to be born, then Shanidev changed his place at the same time, due to which Meghnad's longevity changed into short life. Seeing the changed position of Shani, Ravana became very angry and hit Shani's leg with his mace, due to which Shani Dev became lame.
Why is oil offered to Shani Dev?:
It is written in Anand Ramayana that when Lord Rama's army had tied the Sagar Setu, then the demons could not harm them, so that Pawansut Hanuman was entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of it.
When Hanuman ji was engrossed in Rama's meditation in the evening, then Sun son Shani made his black ugly face angry and said - O monkey, I am the mighty Shani among the gods. I heard you are very strong. Open your eyes and fight with me.
On this Hanuman ji said humbly - At this time I am remembering my Lord. Don't interfere with my worship. When Shani Dev came down to fight, Hanuman ji started wrapping him in his tail. Shani Dev was not freed from that bondage and started getting disturbed by the pain. In order to break Shani's pride, Hanuman started slamming his tail on the stones, due to which Shani Dev was bleeding. Then Shani Dev prayed for mercy, on which Hanuman ji said - I will leave you only when you promise me that you will never disturb the devotee of Shri Ram.
Shani pleaded and said - I promise that I will never forget the amount of you and the devotees of Shri Ram. Then Hanuman ji left Shani and gave the oil to be applied on his wounds, then all the pain of Shani Dev got erased from it.
From that day onwards oil is offered to Shani Dev, due to which his pain is pacified and he becomes happy.
Why is there cruelty in the eyes of Shani Dev?:
It is said in the Brahmapuran - Shani Dev was the ultimate devotee of Lord Krishna since childhood. When he became an adult, his father married him to the daughter of Chitrarath. One night when his wife Ritu reached him with the desire to have a son after taking a bath, Shani Dev was engrossed in the meditation of Lord Krishna. The wife got tired of waiting. His season was fruitless. Then he got angry and cursed Shani Dev that whatever you see from today will be destroyed.
Shani Dev persuaded his wife when the meditation was broken, but she did not have the power to counter the curse. Since then, the sight of Shani Dev was considered cruel and he started living with his head low because he did not want anyone to cause unnecessary harm by his sight.
Why is Shani called a judge?:
It has been said that Shani Dev is not a cruel planet, he is a judge. When a person commits a sin, he is influenced by greed, lust, anger, attachment and resorts to injustice, tyranny, malpractice, incest, sinfulness, fornication, then Shani Dev himself calculates his sins by bringing half-seven in that person's life. But if even during Sadhesati, a person does not leave the truth, takes recourse to kindness and good deeds, then he gets the time spent auspiciously. Therefore, Shani Dev is the giver of good deeds and also punishes bad deeds, due to which he is called a judge.
On asking Goddess Lakshmi, Shani Dev told her that the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, has appointed me as the judge of all the three worlds.
Why Shani Dev is pleased with Kajal's box?:
It has been said in astrology texts that Saturn is very dear to black color and iron metal and it is the causative planet of land, land, deserted places etc. Therefore, on any Saturday, bury a small iron box of kajal in the ground at a secluded place and return home without looking back, then it is the right and simple way to avoid the inauspiciousness of Shani Dev.
Why Shani is pleased with Dasharatha Stotra?:
There is a legend in the scriptures that in order to save his kingdom from severe famine from the wrath of Shani, when King Dasharatha came to confront him, seeing his effort, Shani Dev asked him to ask for a boon. When King Dasharatha duly praised him and pleased him with a self-written source, Shanidev gave him a boon that by reading 'Dasaratha Stotra' on the fourth and eighth day, one can be saved from the sufferings caused by me.
Why Shani Dev Temple of Nightingale Forest is called Siddha?:
Lord Krishna, standing on one leg playing the flute in Dwaparayuga, pleased with the worship of Shani Dev, appeared to him and said that the 'Nightingal Forest' adjacent to Nandgaon is his forest. One who will circumambulate this forest and worship Shani Dev, he will get the blessings of both me and Shani Dev. For this reason, the Shani Dev temple of Kokilavan has the status of a Siddha temple.
What is the relation of Kashi Vishwanath temple with Shani Dev?:
There is a story in Skanda Purana that once Shani Dev told his father Suryadev that I want to get such a position which no one has achieved till date, my power is seven times more than you, my velocity is faced by some god-demon. Sadhaks should not be able to do etc and I should have darshan of my beloved Shri Krishna.
Hearing this wish of Shanidev, Suryadev got enraged and said that I also want my son to be greater than me, but for this you will have to do penance and to do penance, you go to Kashi, there, do intense penance of Lord Shankar and Establish Shivling and take the blessings of your desired fruits from Lord Shankar.
Shanidev did the same as per the orders of his father and after doing penance established the present Shivling. Thus Shani Dev got the supreme position as a blessing from Lord Shankar at the site of Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Conclusion: Praise Shani Dev even in good times of life. Do darshan and charity of Shani Dev in emergency. Worship Shani Dev in painful times. Have faith in Shani Dev even in sad cases.
